Student Assessment and Achievement

Teachers use many assessment tools to measure a student’s individual learning. It is a good idea to communicate regularly with your child’s teacher to understand the full scope of your child’s academic performance.

Early Years Evaluation (EYE)

All children are screened for possible academic or developmental delays before they enter kindergarten. The EYE helps identify children who will benefit from early interventions which will improve their chance for success at school. More information is available at Early Years Evaluation.

Provincial Assessments

Provincial assessments tell us how well students are learning the curriculum, where they need help, and how resources may be directed to improve our education system.  More information is available at Provincial Common Assessments.

National Assessments

The Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP) assesses the performance of Canadian Grade 8 students in reading, math and science every three years.  More information is available at Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP).

International Assessments

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) assesses the performance of 15 year old students in reading, math and science. More information is available at Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
