Norbert Carpenter was appointed deputy minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Action on August 8, 2023. Previously, he served as the Director/Chief Operating Officer of the Public Schools Branch since July 2020. In this role, he worked closely with the board of trustees and senior management to oversee the operations of a school system with 4,000 employees and more than 20,000 students.

Norbert has a wealth of experience working in Prince Edward Island’s public school system, including over 20 years as a teacher and principal. Before becoming Director, he served as an administrator support leader, a position which saw him directly support principals across the Public Schools Branch. He holds degrees from the University of Prince Edward Island, the University of Maine and Mount Saint Vincent University.

Relationships are paramount for Norbert, and he values collaboration with all stakeholders. He has been active in his community for years and cares deeply about PEI and preserving its natural beauty.

Norbert lives with his wife and family in Kings County.
