Insurance Company Licensing

Every insurer carrying on business in the Prince Edward Island must obtain from the Superintendent of Insurance and hold a license under the Insurance ActIt is an offence for an insurer to carrying on business in Prince Edward Island without having obtained a license.

You can check whether an insurance agent is licensed by going to the following link: Corporate/Business Names Registry

License Term

An Insurance Company License is valid for one year. 

License Fee

New license and renewal fee is $900 payable by cheque to the PEI Minister of Finance or by credit card by contacting Registry and Licensing Services at 902-368-4550 Ext 2

Renewals

Insurance Companies renew annually on December 31st. Renewal letters are sent by mail at the beginning of December. 

Change to Attorney for Service

To change an Attorney for Service, please email a new Appendix 2 - Attorney for Service in Canada to licensing@gov.pe.ca 

There is no fee.
