The Health PEI Board acknowledges and celebrates staff making positive, sustainable changes across the Prince Edward Island health system through the Leadership Excellence in Quality and Safety Award.
What is the Leadership Excellence in Quality and Safety Award?
This Quality and Safety Award recognizes individuals and health care teams that have led initiatives to improve the quality and safety of care to Island residents. See the poster.
One Leadership Excellence in Quality and Safety Award is given to either an individual or team who demonstrated significant leadership in the area of quality and safety, and who is making positive, sustainable changes across the healthcare system.
Additionally, up to two Awards of Merit may be given to worthy individuals and/or teams.
Who can be nominated?
All employees and physicians of Health PEI may be nominated including an individual, facility/service/program, unit, committee, work group, quality improvement team or other group within Health PEI. Teams may self-nominate.
Individuals on the selection committee are not eligible to be nominated.

What initiatives are eligible?
Submissions must be related to quality improvement initiatives undertaken within the past two years.
What is the nomination process?
Award nomination submissions will be reviewed by the Heath PEI Board Quality and Safety Committee. Each nomination is evaluated by ranking and consensus methods. The committee considers both the process by which an initiative is undertaken and its outcomes.
What are the award criteria?
Submissions are evaluated based on the Leads in a Caring Environment framework adopted by Health PEI which serves as the basis of its leadership development model. The criteria include:
- lead Self
- engage others
- achieve results
- develop coalitions
- systems transformation
How will the award recipients be recognized?
Leadership Excellence in Quality and Safety Award recipient will receive:
- financial award of up to $4,000 to support professional development in areas related to quality and safety;
- award plaque; and
- letter of recognition from the board chair.
Award of Merit recipient(s) will receive:
- bursary valued up to $2,500; and
- letter of recognition from the board chair.
