Period of PURPLE Crying® Program
The Period of PURPLE Crying® is a prevention program to help educate parents and caregivers about normal infant crying and the dangers of shaking an infant.
When you have a baby, nursing staff at the hospital will give you a Period of PURPLE Crying® package (mobile app and booklet). This package provide parents and caregivers with tips on coping with normal infant crying. You can also talk with your nurse in hospital about the normal patterns of infant crying. As well, families are welcome to talk about the program and ask questions during their at-home visits with Public Health Nursing.
Would you like to get involved with the Period of PURPLE Crying® and knit or crochet purple baby hats?
Newborns at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and Prince County Hospital (PCH) sport purple hats to create awareness about the Period of PURPLE Crying®. You can support the Period of PURPLE Crying® program in PEI by knitting or crocheting purple baby caps.
Hats can be dropped off at the QEH Volunteer Services office or the Maternal Child Care Unit at PCH with a note attached “for Period of PURPLE Crying® babies”.
