Elevator and Lifts Contractor's License

Who needs an Elevator and Lifts Contractor's License?

Any company that wishes to install, maintain, or alter an elevator or lift must first obtain an Elevator and Lifts Contractor's License.

To get license, the company must have in it's employ an individual who holds an Elevators and Lifts Installer's Registration.

An Elevator and Lifts Contractor's License is available in two classes:

  • Class A:  allows a business to install, maintain, or alter equipment that falls under Standard B44 of the Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators or Standard B355, Lifts for Persons With Physical Disabilities.  
  • Class B:  allows a business to install, maintain, or alter equipment that falls under Standard B355, Lifts for Persons With Physical Disabilities.

Is there a fee?

$300 is the fee for an Elevator and Lifts Contractor's License.  There is no HST.

Make cheques payable to the Minister of Finance.

How long is the license valid?

An Elevator and Lifts Contractor's License is valid for a period of three years.
