PEI recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Week
Sexual Assault Awareness Week is Sept 19 – 25 and Island residents are encouraged to learn about prevention and show their support for survivors.
This year’s theme is Love Letters to Survivors and the PEI Rape and Sexual Assault Centre will be coordinating events all week, including workshops, group discussions, and Take Back the Night, to spread awareness about sexual assault.
“Education is key in creating lasting systemic change and safe communities across Prince Edward Island. Survivors should not feel alone in their healing journey. By hosting safe spaces, listening, learning, and standing in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault, we can share in a collective commitment to ending sexual violence.”
- Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Natalie Jameson
“Sexual Assault Awareness Week is a critical time to have open conversations that challenge the silence, stigma, and misconceptions about sexual violence,” said Kelly Peck, executive director, PEI Rape and Sexual Assault Centre. “It’s a reminder to listen to, believe, and support survivors, while fostering a culture of respect and consent. By addressing the root causes of sexual violence—such as power imbalances, inequality, and stereotypes—we take meaningful steps toward prevention.”
“This Week serves as a call to action for us all, to stand with survivors, promote healing, and to continue to work toward a future free of sexual violence,” Peck adds.
