PEILCC announces two cannabis retail outlet locations

The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission has announced new details regarding the province’s model for cannabis sales.

The province will have four dedicated, government-owned retail locations in 2018, as well as an e-commerce platform with direct-to-home delivery. Retail sites will be located in Charlottetown, Summerside, Montague and West Prince.

The four locations were chosen based on population density and proximity. This will allow the province to gauge sales in different areas of the province and plan for future expansion if needed.

In Summerside, the retail store will be located at 425 Granville Street, and in Montague, the retail store will be located at 509 Main Street.

As no compliant bids were received for the Charlottetown and West Prince locations, a new Request for Proposal (RFP) will be issued to acquire these spaces.

Safeguards have been put in place to ensure that locations are reasonable and appropriate, so that they:

  • are a respectful distance from schools;
  • have the necessary security elements and ventilation systems; and
  • meet all of the requirements as laid out in the RFP.
