2024-25 Health Innovation Fund

Health Innovation Fund provides financial assistance to new projects or initiatives that support best practices, implementation of new technologies, and application of new methodologies or processes across the health care system. The fund is designed to foster innovation and the implementation of creative solutions to improve health care services for Islanders. 

The Department of Health and Wellness, in support of its Provincial Health Plan 2023-2028, has created the Health Innovation Fund aimed at unlocking opportunities and ideas that strengthen the health care system. 

Consideration for funding will be given to projects that: 

  • improve the work environment of health care workers;
  • provide timely, appropriate care for Islanders;  
  • seek to improve access to care; 
  • support healthy communities at all levels; and,
  • support recruitment and retention of health care workers.

Who is eligible to apply for funding?  

Eligible applicants include: 

  • Health care facilities (e.g., hospitals, long-term care homes, home care providers, etc.)
  • Health care provider groups (e.g., chiropractors, physiotherapists, etc.) 
  • Innovators offering solutions that support the health and wellness of Islanders 
  • Other organizations (e.g., professional associations and colleges, health service providers, etc.)
  • Other applicants may be considered

The application period is now closed. Successful candidates will be notified by Thursday, October 31, 2024. 

What makes a project application eligible for funding consideration? 

To be considered for this funding opportunity, eligible groups/organizations must submit a completed proposal via the online form below.

Projects must focus on in-demand and key target areas linked to present and future health care needs of Prince Edward Island and must address one or more of the following strategic pillars: 

  1. Keeping the Island Population Healthy 
    • Health and wellness for all residents 
    • Chronic disease prevention and management 
    • Mental health and mental wellness 
  2. Providing a Seamless Experience for all 
    • Seamless access to care 
    • Person-centered care 
    • Coordinated care 
  3. Providing Equitable Access to Care 
    • Addressing inequity
    • Geographies of interest 
    • Target Demographic Groups 
  4. A Healthy and Sustainable Workforce 
    • Capacity, recruitment and retention 
    • Supporting our workforce 
    • Partnerships and collaborations 

What do I need to complete the application?

Interested individuals and/or organizations can apply to the Health Innovation Fund through the online application portal.

You will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Business/Organization Name and Address
  • Contact Name
  • Type of Applicant
  • Type of Organization
  • A brief overview of the following:
    • Project Description;
    • Health-related Human Resources needed, if applicable;
    • Project plan for equity, diversity and inclusion, if applicable;
    • Potential risks that may impact the timeline;
    • Key performance indicators.
  •  Funding information from other sources, if applicable
  • Additional document with Project Proposal and Budget that includes but is not limited to (upload field available):
    • Project Overview;
    • Budget and Implementation;
    • Project timelines;
    • Monitoring and Key outcomes;
    • Strategy for long-term sustainability.

Please indicate if the project can still proceed with partial funding and identify other confirmed funding sources.

Implementation and Evaluation

What is required in the project implementation plan?

The implementation plan should include detailed timelines for project activities and a comprehensive approach to executing the project.

What should the long-term sustainability plan include?

The long-term sustainability plan should outline how the project will continue to operate and be maintained beyond this program funding.

How should key outcomes and measurements be identified?

Key outcomes should be clearly identified, including methods and metrics for monitoring, and measuring the project's success.

Potential risks and threats to a successful project should be outlined. (i.e. issues related to healthcare, human resources, space, and other logistical challenges)

How long is the evaluation process?

The application period is now closed. Successful candidates will be notified by Thursday, October 31, 2024.  Upon approval, funds will be distributed to the applicants to manage distribution and allocation for the project as per their proposals.
