Funding and Supports for Environmental Stewardship Projects
The Department of Environment, Water and Climate Change, in cooperation with other non-governmental partners, offers and/or supports several programs for environmental stewardship.
Wildlife Conservation Fund (WCF)
Wildlife Conservation Fund provides funding for the protection and enhancement of wildlife and wildlife habitats. Money for the fund comes from a contribution made once a year by each licensed angler, hunter and trapper on PEI.
Greening Spaces Program (GSP)
Greening Spaces Program provides support to schools, communities and community groups for tree and shrub planting programs that provide environmental, community and educational benefits.
Small Marsh Program (SMP)
PEI Small Marsh Program works with Island land owners to restore approximately 20 wetlands on PEI each year. These projects range in size from 0.5 to 4 ha.
Watershed Management Fund (WMF)
The Watershed Management Fund provides support to community-based watershed organizations involved in the watershed management and planning process. The WMF also supports the habitat enhancement projects that were formerly supported by the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program. However, organizations that adopt a more holistic watershed approach will receive funding priority. The Watershed Management Fund provides direct financial assistance, as well as technical support.
