Atlantic Apprenticeship Harmonization Project (AAHP)
The Government of Prince Edward Island is currently involved in the Atlantic Apprenticeship Harmonization Project (AAHP). The AAHP is working to streamline the apprenticeship training rules, processes, and standards and develop a common Information Technology (IT) system to make it is easier for individuals to enter trades and work toward certification, even if relocating to another province in Atlantic Canada.
What trades have been selected for harmonization?
The Atlantic Trade Advisory Committee chose the following trades first, mainly because of their mobility, demand, curriculum standards, and industry support:
- Bricklayer
- Carpenter
- Construction Electrician
- Cook
- Industrial Electrician
- Instrumental and Control Technician
- Metal Fabricator (Fitter)
- Plumber
- Steamfitter/Pipefitter
- Welder
What is the Atlantic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Concerning Apprentice Mobility?
The Atlantic MOU Concerning Apprentice Mobility is an agreement signed by the Premiers and Ministers responsible for Apprenticeship in the four (4) Atlantic Provinces. The Agreement provides mutual recognition for training successfully completed by apprentices and pre-apprentices who move permanently to or work temporarily in one of the four Atlantic Provinces.

What is the Provincial-Territorial Apprentice Mobility Protocol?
This protocol directs provincial and territorial Ministers responsible for apprenticeship to provide clear and consistent information for apprentices and employers and to recognize hours worked and technical training successfully completed by apprentices, regardless of the jurisdiction in which they were completed. The protocol applies to apprentices and recent graduates of college trades programs who are moving permanently or temporarily to another province. For more information, choose a topic below.
