MMIWG and TRC Status Reports for Past Years
Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA People and the Calls for Justice
In June 2020, the Government of PEI tabled its preliminary report on the implementation of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG) Calls for Justice. In advancing reconciliation with the Mi'kmaq and other Indigenous communities on PEI, the government has worked to ensure that its response to the Calls for Justice is Indigenous-led; meaning that the voices, perspectives, lived experiences, and guidance of Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are central to the approach that government takes to address each Call. The reports below highlight work completed in previous fiscal years. Going forward, these reports will document initiatives undertaken and completed each calendar year.
Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action
The Indigenous Relations Secretariat has kept an evergreen document of the status of various recommendations since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's (TRC) final report was released in 2015. In 2019, the Government of PEI committed to releasing a regular status report in the Legislative Assembly that would provide an update on initiatives within government that respond to the Calls to Action. Three reports have been released and can be found here:
