Petroleum Storage Tank or Tank System - Installation or Alteration

What do I need to install or alter a petroleum storage tank or storage tank system?

You must hold a Level II Petroleum Storage Tank Contractor's License. You must complete, and forward to the department, an application form.

Are there additional requirements?

Yes. An application for an installation must be provided 20 working days in advance of the proposed date of installation. An application for an alteration must be provided 18 working days in advance of the proposed date of alteration.

How much does it cost?

There is no fee.

How long will it take to get approval to install or alter a tank or system?

After the application has been received, you should allow 14 working days for approval.

When is a Certificate of Compliance required?

A Level II Petroleum Storage Tank Contractor must complete a Certificate of Compliance after they install or alter a petroleum storage tank or storage tank system. 

What is the process?

You must complete, and forward to the department, a Certificate of Compliance. Staff review the certificate and once approval is granted, the tank or system is registered by the department.

How much does it cost?

There is no fee for a Certificate of Compliance.

How long will it take to approve your Certificate of Compliance?

Allow four weeks to review and approve your certificate.
