Monitoring and Surveillance of COVID-19
The following set of COVID-19 indicators are routinely monitored to inform risk levels. Indicators are considered in combination, and along with other factors. No single indicator will be used to determine our risk level and subsequent public health response.
- Daily number of new COVID-19 cases, 7-day rolling average
- Percent of tested samples that were positive for COVID-19, including both RT-PCR and Abbott ID Now rapid molecular tests, 7-day rolling average
- Concentration of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater samples from PEI wastewater surveillance network sites
- Daily number of hospitalizations for COVID-19, 7-day rolling average
- Weekly number of new COVID-19 outbreaks in a vulnerable congregate living or institutional setting (e.g., long-term care facility, correctional facility)
- COVID-19 vaccination coverage, including received at least one dose, primary series complete, and received booster doses
- Variants of concern and variants of interest circulating regionally, nationally, and globally
