Apprenticeship In-school Training
2024-2025 Online Registration for Apprenticeship In-school Training
When is in-school training offered and how can I apply?
Four weeks before your training starts, you will receive training information from the Apprenticeship Section. Read the information carefully. Complete and return the required forms to SkillsPEI.
Am I eligible to have training costs covered?
If you are eligible for Employment Insurance, your tuition for apprenticeship in-school training is fully subsidized through SkillsPEI. You may also be eligible for travel costs. You will have to pay the cost for code books.
How long is in-school training?
In-school training is typically five to ten weeks of classroom training for each level of apprenticeship. Each trade has different weeks required.
Do I have to leave my job to attend in-school training?
Yes, your employer will release you to attend in-school training and allow you to return to work following the training.
Are there any loans available to help apprentices while in block release training?
The Canada Apprentice Loan is an initiative of the Government of Canada to help you complete your apprenticeship in a designated Red Seal trade.
Starting in January 2015, you can apply for up to $4,000 in interest-free loans per period of technical training. The money will be available to you to help pay for tuition, tools, equipment and living expenses, to cover forgone wages or to help support your family.
Visit the Government of Canada page on the Canada Apprentice Loan (CAL) for more information.
