Consultation Replacement Employment Standards Act
The provincial government wants to hear from Islanders on the proposed replacement for the current Employment Standards Act.
Background
The replacement Act was developed following the completion of the Employment Standards Act Comprehensive Review.
The Comprehensive Review Panel completed extensive policy and consultation work over a two-year period, leading up to recommendations found in the final report.
Given the significant number of legislative changes recommended by the Comprehensive Review Panel, it was determined that a new Act should be drafted to replace the current Act.
Proposed Replacement Act
A consultation draft of the replacement Employment Standards Act is available for review here
Creating a replacement Act has been a significant undertaking and, at this time, the province is seeking feedback from Islanders on terminology and any concerns with interpretation. Please note that the replacement Act will not be coming into force right away as associated regulatory work is required to complete the transition. Interested individuals and employers are advised to look for future announcements on information sessions offered by the Department of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population on the replacement Act.
