Council of the Federation Literacy Award

Each year, the Council of the Federation Literacy Award recognizes achievements in literacy in every province and territory. The award covers the spectrum of literacy, including family, Aboriginal, health, workplace and community literacy and recognizes the excellence of educators, volunteers, learners, and community organizations (including non-governmental organizations) and businesses in each province and territory.

The 2024 nomination period has closed. Nominations for the 2025 Council of the Federation Literacy Award will open in early 2025.

Who should I nominate?

You can nominate a person, organization or business who:

  • lives in or is located in Prince Edward Island;
  • has demonstrated leadership in the field of literacy;
  • has inspired others; and
  • has demonstrated a commitment to lifelong literacy.

How do I make a nomination?

You will need to provide (1) a completed nomination form, (2) an outline, which is no more than two typewritten pages, that describes specific examples of the following:

  • how the nominee has demonstrated leadership in the field of literacy;;
  • how the nominee has inspired others;
  • awards and/or recognition received;
  • and the nominee's commitment to lifelong learning.

Two (2) letters of support :

  • one letter must be from a person, organization, business, learning institution or government body who can validate the nominee's contributions; and
  • one from another person who has been inspired by the nominee.

Letters of support must be no more than two typewritten pages and provide specific examples describing:

  • why the nominee deserves the award,
  • how the nominee has demonstrated leadership in the field of literacy; and
  • the nominee's commitment to lifelong learning.
