Applications being accepted for home renovation assistance
Islanders needing financial assistance with home renovations can apply until April 21 at 5 p.m. for the Prince Edward Island Home Renovation Program.
The program provides eligible Islanders with grants of up to $6,000 for major home renovations such as electrical, structural, heating, plumbing, and fire safety, as well as grants of up to $8,000 for renovations that assist individuals with a permanent disability. It helps more Islanders remain in their own home and maintain their independence, reducing their need for family and senior housing and community and long-term care.
“This program has assisted more than 900 Islanders since it started in 2013,” Family and Human Services Minster Tina Mundy said. “Government recognizes how important these grants are in helping Islanders remain in their homes, and we have invested $4.7 million in this program while committing to increase funding by $400,000 in 2016.”
Eligible Islanders must have an annual income of up to $35,000 and an assessed property value of $145,000 or less. Applications are prioritized based on income and those with the lowest income will receive funding first.
Funding is provided in partnership with the Government of Prince Edward Island and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, through the Agreement for Investment in Affordable Housing.
