Islanders asked for their input on investments in agriculture
Islanders are being asked to provide input on a new agricultural policy framework that will strengthen agriculture and agri-food sectors in PEI and Canada.
Islanders can submit their input and ideas online about priority areas for agriculture through the Next Policy Framework survey until July 1, 2021. The Next Policy Framework is a working title for the program that will replace the current Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP).
“I encourage all of our clients, members of the farm community, and the public to participate in this survey so that we can ensure the new framework meets the needs of Prince Edward Island. The Department of Agriculture and Land is proud of our diverse programs that encourage growth in the agriculture industry and advance our Island economy and we want to continue to offer programs that do that.”
- Agriculture and Land Minister Bloyce Thompson
CAP is a $3 billion federal, provincial, territorial investment that has been in place since April 1, 2018 and will expire on April 1, 2023.
“CAP funding will invest $37 million into projects by 2023 to strengthen and support PEI’s agriculture and agri-food sector. We look forward to hearing from Islanders on ways we can continue to grow and invest in these important sectors for years to come, through the new program,” Minister Thompson said.
The Next Policy Framework online survey is offered in multiple languages to promote diversity and inclusion. The results of the survey will complement input the Department of Agriculture and
Land has heard from other consultations with industry groups and engagement through program evaluations.
