Islanders asked for opinions on culture

A new online survey will ask Islanders to share their perspective on what culture means to them and their community.

The survey is one of four community consultations that will help create the province’s 10-year cultural strategy. It is available at Cultural Strategy for PEI from May 15 for three weeks.

“This is an opportunity for Islanders to give direct feedback that will help outline strategic direction for culture in our province,” Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie said. “The survey takes about 10 minutes of your time, and it will help to develop programs and supports for culture for years to come.”

In addition to the online survey, the other three parts of the community consultations are:

• coffee shop pop-ups that were hosted across the Island to engage Islanders in guided conversations on broad culture questions;

• roundtable discussions are hosted to identify needs and receive input from experts including representatives of arts and heritage organizations, youth, arts patrons, and the Francophone and Indigenous communities; and

• the Facebook Page acts as a virtual coffeehouse where Islanders can post and engage on the page with their ideas.

Following the consultations, a strategy document will be drafted and validated with participants. The final document will be shared at a cultural celebration in the fall of 2017.
