Premier announces changes to caucus responsibilities

Premier Wade MacLauchlan announced that Charlottetown-Victoria Park MLA Richard Brown will serve as Government House Leader, effective immediately.

“As Government’s longest-serving MLA, Richard Brown’s experience and knowledge are critical to delivering on our mandate to build prosperity for the benefits of Islanders,” said the Premier. “His leadership will help to advance our agenda and build our caucus team.”

The Government House Leader is responsible for guiding government’s mandate through the legislature, managing the government’s day-to-day business in the Legislative Assembly and liaising with other parties on the conduct of bills and debates. The house leader also presents the position of Government on points of order before the Speaker.

“I am honoured to accept the role of Government House Leader to deliver on the priorities of Islanders,” said Brown. “I look forward to working with our entire caucus to guide government’s agenda forward.”

Premier MacLauchlan announced new responsibilities for members of government caucus to work collectively on government’s priorities of the economy and investing in frontline services.

The following appointments were made to Government committees:

Priorities:

  • Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Alan McIsaac, Chair
  • Charlottetown-Brighton MLA Jordan Brown, Vice-Chair
  • Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie
  • Health and Wellness Minister Robert Henderson
  • Communities, Land and Environment Minister Robert Mitchell
  • Family and Human Services Minister Tina Mundy   
  • Premier MacLauchlan, member ex officio

 
Policy Review:

  • Workforce and Advanced Learning Minister Sonny Gallant, Chair
  • Summerside-Wilmot MLA Chris Palmer, Vice-Chair
  • Rural and Regional Development Minister Pat Murphy

The Legislative Assembly opens on April 4.
