Road, bridge projects help Island communities succeed

Investing in infrastructure -

More than $6.65 million in new bridge and road improvements will help ensure Islanders and Island products get safely where they need to go.

The province’s second round of construction tenders was announced today (March 8) and closes March 28; details can be found at www.princeedwardisland.ca/tenders. These projects are in addition to the $8 million first round of tenders announced in January. In total, the Prince Edward Island government has budgeted $42 million in capital improvements to roads and bridges for the 2018-19 construction season.

“Our highway system is the province’s most important piece of economic infrastructure so we need to ensure its longevity,” said Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar. “Prince Edward Island is mighty because we are small and nimble enough to focus on what matters most, such as improving safety, creating jobs, and making it easier to transport our goods to markets locally, nationally, and internationally.”

The provincial government has invested more than $120 million in capital road and bridge improvements since 2015 including the construction of nine roundabouts and construction or rehabilitation of 16 bridge structures.
