Updates to PEI Vax Pass verifier app available for businesses, organizations

An update to Prince Edward Island’s easy-to-use vaccination verification app – PEI Vax Pass Verifier – now allows Island businesses and organizations using the app to scan government-issued proofs of vaccination QR codes from all Canadian provinces and territories.

Previously, the PEI Vax Pass Verifier was able to scan QR codes from most, but not all, Canadian provinces and territories. In addition to being able to scan government-issued QR codes from all provinces and territories, the updated version of the PEI Vax Pass Verifier app is also able to scan COVID-19 proof of vaccination QR codes issued by the Canadian Armed Forces.

Businesses and organizations already using the PEI Vax Pass Verifier can update the app on their mobile device or tablet by simply connecting the device to the internet. Once connected, the app will automatically update itself – there is no need to download updates from the app store.

The PEI Vax Pass Verifier app is becoming the preferred method for validating a person’s vaccination status as it will scan the QR code embedded in the person’s COVID-19 proof of vaccination to determine if they are fully vaccinated or not according to PEI’s criteria, making the proof of vaccination confirmation process quick and easy for business, organizations and individuals. The verifier app can scan a QR code presented on either a mobile device or in printed form.

The PEI Vax Pass Verifier app is available in both the Apple and Google Play app stores. The app can be operated in English or French based on the language preference selected on the mobile device or tablet. Since it launched on November 8, there have been nearly 4,200 downloads of the PEI Vax Pass Verifier app from the Apple App store and over 750 downloads from the Google Play store

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization recently recommended children 5 to 11 years of age be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus; however, these children should not be included in any proof of vaccination requirements for accessing discretionary activities and events. At this time, PEI is not including children 5 to 11 years of age in the PEI Vax Pass Program.

More information about the PEI Vax Pass Verifier app for businesses and organizations, including links to download the app from the app stores and other supports, is available online.

Businesses, not-for-profits, and non-governmental organizations that may need to purchase a new tablet to implement a proof of vaccination system in their business or operation can apply for financial support to the COVID-19 – Vax Pass Implementation Fund. Questions can also be directed to the PEI Vax Pass Helpline by calling toll-free 1-833-533-9333 (select option 3, then option 1) or by emailing vaxpass@gov.pe.ca

Island residents and others vaccinated for COVID-19 on Prince Edward Island can access their PEI Vax Pass featuring the unique and secure QR code online or by visiting any Access PEI or PEI Public Library across the province, as well as PEI Visitor Information Centres in Borden-Carleton, Charlottetown and Wood Islands. PEI government-issued proofs of vaccination not containing the QR code will continue to be accepted.
