Adult Education

Training PEI - Adult Education funding program was developed to assist job seekers to gain the skills and education necessary to find and maintain employment. Adult Education (AE) refers to education below the post-secondary level. Financial support is provided to enable a job seeker to complete their General Educational Development (GED) or Academic Upgrading courses.

Bridging programs, Literacy/Numeracy and English/French as a Second Language may also be supported. For more information on these contact SkillsPEI.

Who is Eligible to Participate?

If you are unemployed and are seeking GED training to provide a high school equivalency diploma or do not currently possess the course requirements to gain acceptance into a specific post-secondary training or do possess the course and your existing mark does not meet the minimum entrance requirement, you are eligible to apply.

• You must be legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident);
• You must be out of high school for at least 1 year;
• You must have an active claim for EI;
• Other criteria may apply.

How do I Apply?

You must meet with a case manager at a designated SkillsPEI external service provider Employment Assistance Services (EAS) Employment Assistance Services to complete a needs assessment and develop a Return-to-Work Action Plan. Your case manager will assist you through the application process. To assess your application SkillsPEI will need:

• Completed Training PEI Application for Funding;
• Return-to-Work Action Plan prepared by your case manager; 
• SkillsPEI consent form;
• Acceptance letter from the post-secondary institution;
• Proof of Education (for Academic Upgrading courses).

When is my Application due?

You must submit your application package and receive confirmation from SkillsPEI that you have been approved for the program before your course starts.

How does the Program Work?

SkillsPEI will pay 100% of your tuition up to $9,000. You may be able to obtain a referral to continue to receive your Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. You may also be eligible to receive financial support towards travel and childcare costs.
