Celebrate PEI Agriculture Photo Contest Rules
2024 Rules & Regulations
ELIGIBILITY
All entries must be photographs taken in Prince Edward Island. The contest is open to all residents of Canada and the United States, except management and staff of the PEI Department of Agriculture. This includes their immediate families, cohabitants, agents or contractors. The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. The Department reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. Decisions of the Department will be final. No purchase is necessary. Any and all disputes will be resolved in the appropriate courts in the Province of Prince Edward Island and subject to the laws of the Province. Should there be a conflict between the laws of Prince Edward Island and any other laws, the conflict will be resolved in favour of the laws of the Province of Prince Edward Island. The Celebrate PEI Agriculture Photo Contest is subject to all Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws.
FORMAT
Entries are to be digital photographs and submitted as .jpeg or .jpg files electronically. Digital files are to be at least 2200 pixels wide for a horizontal image or 2200 pixels tall for a vertical image, and no larger than 10 MB (10,000 KB). Content alteration of digital files is not acceptable; including combining multiple photos. Cropping of photos is permitted, tonal or colour corrections are acceptable. Borders, frames, text or other graphic treatments are not permitted.
PEI Department of Agriculture appointed judges reserve the right to disqualify contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 8 x 10 inches.
CATEGORIES
- Animals of Agriculture - Wooly, furry, feathered or fluffy animals enjoying farm life in spring, summer, fall or winter
- Celebrating Farming Families - At least two family members at work in the farmyard or in the field at planting or harvest time
- Commercial Fisheries and Aquaculture - A glimpse into the industry via harbour life and coastal fishing activities
- Farmscapes - PEI’s agricultural landscapes forming scenic vistas or cultivated crops of vegetables, grains, oilseeds, fruits, etc
- Fresh from the Land - Zoom in on all the vibrant colours of crops growing in fields, or freshly harvested produce, or culinary displays of prepared PEI grown food
- PEI’s Next Generation of Farmers - Youth showing a passion for food production; or farmers using precision agriculture technology in the field
- Wild Side - Wildlife in their natural environment
- Youth - For the young photography enthusiasts aged 12 years old and under
ENTRIES AND IDENTIFICATION
Photographs entered must not have been previously published. Individuals are permitted to submit up to five (5) entries in the different categories. Entrants must own all rights to the photographs submitted. As such, entrants hold PEI Department of Agriculture, the Government of Prince Edward Island and the contest sponsors harmless from any breach of copyright. Photographs that have won any other contests or have been published in a magazine or newspaper (except online) are not eligible. Photographs that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible. For a photo in which a person is recognizable, a model release is required. Model releases are the responsibility of the entrant and must be presented with the submission of the photo. Photographs must have been shot within the past two years (since January 1, 2022). If an entry is received in an inappropriate category, judges reserve the right to place the entry in the appropriate category. The Department holds the right to disqualify entries with inappropriate content. Entries will not be returned. Photo submission instructions or application forms are available online .
PUBLICATION
Winners' names and photographs will be showcased at the “Celebrate PEI Agriculture” display during Old Home Week 2024. The PEI Department of Agriculture reserves the non-exclusive right to publish any entry and/or use any entry in promotional and advertising materials. Photos published will be credited to the photographer where possible. Winners may be asked to participate in other Department marketing initiatives related to promoting PEI agriculture.
DEADLINE
All entries submitted through the contest website must be received prior to 4:00 pm AST, Friday, July 5, 2024. Submit entries through the contest website,
JUDGING
The winners will be selected by a panel of judges in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Winners will be notified by 4:00 pm AST, on or before July 19th, 2024. Decision of the judges is final.
RESPONSIBILITY
The PEI Department of Agriculture or the Government of Prince Edward Island cannot be held responsible for entries that are lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation. The Department or the Government of Prince Edward Island is not responsible for any failure of the website or email during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any email, online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion.
COPYRIGHT NOTICE
With regard to any photograph submitted to this contest, the entrant, or the owner of copyright in the photograph, retains copyright. By submitting any photograph to this contest, the entrant grants (or warrant that the owner of such materials expressly grants) the PEI Department of Agriculture a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any Department purpose, including, but not limited to advertising and promotional materials, its website, exhibition, and commercial products, including but not limited to the Department publications. The Department will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.
