Additional Designation to a PEI Teacher's Certificate

You may apply to have an additional designation in inclusive education or an additional designation in school counselling assigned to your PEI Teacher’s Certificate if you meet certain academic requirements.

What do I need to apply for an additional designation in inclusive education?

Please include the following with your completed application form:

  • Proof of either:
    • An approved graduate-level academic credential beyond an initial pre-service teacher education program in the area of inclusive or special education, or
    • An approved fifteen (15) credit hours of study in subjects related to inclusive education at a recognized university, beyond the initial pre-service teacher education program and at the graduate level
  • $25 fee

What do I need to apply for an additional designation in school counselling?

Please include the following with your completed application form:

  • Proof of completion of a master’s degree program in counselling, counselling theory, or a related discipline with a focus on counselling from a recognized university,
  • Proof of completion of graduate course work in counselling theory and five (5) of the following areas:
    • Communication and relationship skills
    • Group counselling
    • Career development
    • Research and evaluation
    • Consultation methods
    • Learning and human development
    • Psychological education
    • Counselling interventions and strategies
    • Multicultural counselling
    • Counselling in specialized settings
    • Counselling ethics
    • Psychoeducational assessment
  • Proof of completion of 120 hours of a supervised counselling practicum, such as an official transcript or signed letter from a practicum supervisor
  • Proof of Canadian Counsellor Certification or eligibility for Canadian Counsellor Certification with the Canadian Counselling Association
  • $25 fee

When does the additional designation become effective?

The additional designation is valid from the date when the Office of the Registrar receives all required documentation.

Is there a salary increase with an additional designation?

No.  An additional designation provides recognition of additional specialized coursework.

Is there a fee to process my credentials?

There is a $25 fee to evaluate credentials.

You can pay fees by cheque or money order, payable to the Minister of Finance, in cash at the Office of the Registrar, or by credit card over the phone, email or fax by using a payment form.  Fees are non-refundable unless the application is withdrawn and in the event that no staff time has been invested in processing the application.
