Energy Efficient Equipment Rebates
efficiencyPEI offers rebates for the installation of Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships Cold Climate Air-Source Heat Pump Specification (NEEP ccASHP) air source heat pumps, ENERGY STAR® certified heating equipment including geothermal heat pumps, water heating devices, biomass heating devices, and other energy saving products.
An energy audit is not required to receive a residential energy efficient equipment rebate through efficiencyPEI.
If you are interested in financing for the up-front costs, learn more about the Residential Home Heating Loan Program. If you would like a loan, you must apply for the loan before you install your equipment.
How do I apply for the rebate?
1. Review the eligibility criteria in the application and rebate amounts (below).
2. After your equipment is purchased and installed, collect the documents to include with your application.
- Collect dated paid sales receipts showing where unit was purchased and the make and model numbers of unit installed.
- Islanders with an annual household income of $35,000 or less may be eligible for a larger rebate. If you're applying for a low income rebate, include your GST Credit Notice showing your net family income, marital status and province of residence.
- All heat pump installations require a certificate of compliance (electrical permit.) Ask your installer for this document.
3. Apply online or mail or drop off your application form to efficiencyPEI with the required documents.
- You will need your property tax number. This is also known as a property identification number or a PID. It can also be found at the address locator page.
Applications that contain all the necessary information are usually processed within 4 weeks.
Am I eligible for a rebate?
- You must apply within a year of installation.
- You must own the property where the equipment was installed.
- For rental properties, rebates are available through the Residential Rental Efficiency Rebates Program.
- For equipment installed in businesses, tourism accommodations and short-term rental accommodations (defined as rented for less than one year at a time), apply for a Business Energy Rebate instead.
- Equipment installed in new construction is not eligible. Buildings must be inhabited for more than six months to be eligible. If you are planning to build a new home, learn more about New Home Construction Incentives.
- All heat pump services (heat pump supply, installation, electrical and refrigeration) must be provided by the same Network of Excellence contractor. A certificate of compliance is required for all heat pump installations.
- Heating system upgrades must be installed in already heated spaces to be eligible for rebates.
- Additional terms and conditions may apply.
