Power Engineers Board of Examiners

To regulate the licensing of Power Engineers and the registering of Power, Heating, and Refrigeration plants on Prince Edward Island, under the Power Engineering Act and Regulations.

What is the function of the board?

Review applications received for Power Engineering examinations and determine the appropriate classification of license to be issued. Invigilate and grade examinations, as necessary. Review industry based training programs and advises the Chief Examiner in regards to regulations amendments.

Primary Role:  Adjudicative

Material Role:  Advisory

How many people are on the board?

The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint five persons as members of the Board and the Chair shall be an employee of the Department of Communities, Land and Environment.

What are the requirements of board members?

Formal Qualifications
At least two of the persons appointed as a member of the Board shall hold a First Class Power Engineering License and the remaining members must hold at least a Second Class Power Engineering License.

Work & Experience Requirements
All members should have a general understanding of the Power Engineering Act and Regulations and be an expert in their field.

Skills Required
Mediation and tribunal skills.

What are the nomination requirements?

Statutory Nomination Requirements
The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint all members.

Will I get paid?

Chair - $113/diem and Members - $73/diem

What is the time commitment of the board?

The Board shall meet when requested by the Chair or Minister.

The members of the Board hold office for a term of five years
