PEI Pharmacare Travel Supply Policy

What is the PEI Pharmacare Travel Supply Policy?

PEI Pharmacare clients travelling outside of the province may be allowed to obtain up to 180 days of their eligible medication prior to leaving the province.

Am I eligible?

Clients with a valid PEI Health Card and who are enrolled in the following programs are eligible:

Are all medications eligible?

No. Narcotic, controlled and targeted medications are not eligible for coverage for travel supply.

Medications approved for coverage under the High Cost Drug Program required for travel must first be paid for out-of-pocket by the client and the official pharmacy receipt(s) must be sent to PEI Pharmacare for assessment. Reimbursement will only be considered once at least 80% of the days' supply of the previous prescription has passed.

What will my travel supply medication cost?

Eligible clients are responsible for applicable co-payments for each eligible medication dispensed to them.

What if my travel supply medication is lost, stolen or damaged?

PEI Pharmacare will not be responsible for the replacement of lost, stolen or damaged medications. Replacement of these medications will be at the client's expense.

Do I need to fill out a form?

Yes. Prior to leaving the province, you must fill out and sign the PEI Pharmacare Travel Declaration form [PDF | 131 KB] and take the completed form with you to your pharmacy, so they can keep it on file.

Where do I send my receipts?
