Charlottetown court operations being adjourned

The Department of Justice and Public Safety is confirming that court operations in Charlottetown are being adjourned today, including the White and Rodd inquest.

A staff member of court services has tested positive for COVID-19, and the case is under investigation. Contact tracing is underway and the individual is self-isolating. Close contacts, including court staff, are being tested today and are required to isolate until directed otherwise by the Chief Public Health Office. Due to the isolation requirements, there is temporarily insufficient court staff to ensure complete court operations.

As the Provincial and Supreme Courts follow strict public health protocols and with a high vaccination rate amongst staff, the Chief Public Health Office confirms that the risk of transmission remains low.

Court operations are expected to resume in the coming days. A further notice will be issued once the Department of Justice and Public Safety has ensured adequate staffing.

Individuals who were previously scheduled to appear in Charlottetown at Provincial Court can contact Cindy Stewart at 902-368-6040 and Sandra Ripley 902-368-6023 for Supreme Court matters.
