Islanders appointed on Engage PEI’s 2nd anniversary

As Engage PEI nears its second anniversary, 32 more Islanders agreed to volunteer with the provincial government in September.

Engage PEI helps Islanders apply to fill vacancies on more than 70 government agencies, boards, and commissions. To ensure they are considered when there is a vacancy that interests them, Islanders should consider submitting their application in advance at www.princeedwardisland.ca/engagepei.

“Our Engage PEI appointees reflect the diversity of our Island population and they deserve our thanks,” Premier Wade MacLauchlan said. “Islanders have always been willing to work together to make this a better place, and the success of Engage PEI over the last two years shows again why – when it comes to community and service to others – Prince Edward Island has the right to call itself ‘mighty’.”

Since it was launched on October 8, 2015, Engage PEI has received 633 applications and helped 198 Islanders get appointed to provincial government boards; of those, 52 percent have been women.

Between 10 and 20 vacant positions become available each month. Some vacancies require specific skill sets, so Islanders should regularly check for openings that suit their experience or interests.
