Children's Summer Food Program

The Department of Social Development and Seniors is working with local food vendors to deliver frozen reheatable meals each week to school-aged children whose families need help accessing healthy foods. We will provide free meals for school-aged children, throughout July and August. Meals will be delivered every Wednesday to the address provided on the application.

Who is eligible for the Children’s Summer Food Program?

Any family residing in Prince Edward Island who is facing challenges with accessing healthy meals is eligible to receive meals for children. Children must be school aged (Kindergarten to Grade 12, as of September 2024), under the age of 18, and able to consume solid food.

How Do I Apply?

Registration will open on June 12th, 2024, and remain open throughout the duration of the program. Please fill out the form available through the link at the bottom of this webpage.

What Information is Required?

  • Name of parent or guardian who is applying
  • Contact information for parent or guardian (phone number and email)
  • Delivery address and special delivery instructions
  • Number of school aged children in the home requiring meals
  • Grade level of each child (as of September 2024)
  • Allergies or food sensitivities for each child

How is the service provided?

Meals are sourced from local restaurants or catering companies and delivered to the address provided on the application. Each registered child will be provided with seven (7) frozen, free meals per week via delivery to a location of their choosing (i.e. home, work).

Do I need to re-register each week?

Once you register for the Children’s Summer Food Program the first time, you do not need to re-register each week. You will continue to receive meals until you opt-out or the program concludes.

Families can register at any time; meal orders are finalized on the Tuesday (11:59pm) prior to the delivery week. If that deadline is missed, your information will be added to the order the following week.

Do I need to order the meals?

After you register your child(ren) you do not need to order meals. Every child registered will receive seven meals each week. Meals are based on a set menu and specific ordering is not available.

When will deliveries happen?

Deliveries will occur every Wednesday between July 3 – August 28, 2024. Please note we will only be offering delivery this year (no pick-up option).

Families are required to have someone at the provided address between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to accept the delivery. Meals cannot be left in coolers due to food safety reasons.
