Re-Apply to the Catastrophic Drug Program
If you are currently receiving coverage through the Catastrophic Drug Program, you can re-apply online to continue to receive benefits if the cost of your prescription medication is making it hard for you to pay other essential life expenses.
Am I eligible to continue receiving coverage?
You and members of your household are eligible to re-apply for this program if you:
- are a permanent PEI resident as defined by the Drug Cost Assistance Act;
- have a valid PEI Health Card;
- filed your most recent income tax return in PEI; and
- received coverage under this program in the previous year.
When do I need to re-apply?
Eligibility continues until June 30 each year. To avoid interruption in coverage, you must re-apply each year before your eligibility expires.
What if I have private insurance?
The portion you pay out-of-pocket at your pharmacy for eligible medications will still count toward your household accumulator. The annual premium you pay your insurance company may be used to reduce your household income by up to $2,500 when calculating the household cap amount.
What do I need to apply?
You will need to provide your 8-digit PEI Health Card number and your Social Insurance Number (SIN). You will also need to provide this information for your spouse and any dependants.
