School-Age Child Centre Grant Programs

Funding is available to support operational costs for licensed school-age child centres and to encourage more operators to license as a school-age child centre. These grants are intended to support school-age child care through school-age child centres, as defined in the Early Learning and Child Care Act Regulations, while the province develops a long-term strategy. 

Who is Eligible to Participate? 

Operators that hold a license and currently operate a school-age child centre are eligible to apply for the School-Age Child Centre One-Time Stabilization Grant. Operators must: 

  • Be in good standing with the Canada Revenue Agency. 
  • Be in good standing with provincial and federal legislation. 
  • Not have a written Order issued by the Early Learning and Child Care Board, as per section 48 of the Early Learning and Child Care Act. 

New operators interested in obtaining a license to operate a school-age child centre are eligible to apply for the School-Age Child Centre Licensing Incentive Grant. New operators must: 

  • Submit a licensing application to the Early Learning and Child Care Board and become licensed no later than December 31, 2024. 
  • Remain operational for at least one calendar year from date of issuance. 
  • Be licensed for at least 15 students. 

School-age child centres licensed between July 22, 2024 and December 31, 2024 are eligible to apply for the School-Age Child Centre Licensing Incentive Grant.

How do I apply? 

  • Review the eligibility criteria in the application and on this page.  
  • If you currently hold a license and operate a school-age child centre: 
    • In your application for the School-Age Child Centre One-Time Stabilization Grant, describe how the grant will support operational costs and collect the required documents to include with your application. 
    • Email or mail your application or drop off your application form to the Department of Education and Early Years with the required documents. 
  • If you are interested in obtaining a license to operate a school-age child centre: 
    • Submit a licensing application to to the Early Learning and Child Care Board. 
    • Upon issuance of your school-age child centre license, between July 22, 2024 and December 31, 2024, you will receive an application for the School-Age Child Centre Licensing Incentive Grant.
    • In your application, describe how the grant will support purchase of program equipment, materials and supplies and collect the required documents to include with your application. 
    • Email or mail your application or drop off your application form to the Department of Education and Early Years with the required documents.

When is my application due? 

Applications for both programs must be submitted no later than January 17, 2025. 

How long will it take to process my application? 

Please allow three weeks to receive approval.  

How do the Programs Work? 

School-Age Child Centre One-Time Stabilization Grant 

  • This grant is for operators that hold a license and currently operate a school-age child centre.  
  • The grant is offered on a per enrolment basis in September 2024: 
    • $300 per enrolled full-time child (before and after school, and 5 days per week).   
    • A pro-rated amount per enrolled part-time child (before or after school, or less than 5 days per week).  
  • Eligible expenses include operational costs such as programming supplies, occupancy fees and staffing and/or staff incentives for in-ratio staff. 
  • The grant is subject to a hold back of 15%, to be released upon submission of a final report to the Department of Education and Early Years outlining and supporting related expenditures. 

School-Age Child Centre Licensing Incentive Grant 

  • This grant is for new operators licensed between July 22, 2024 and December 31, 2024 to operate a school-age child centre.
  • The grant can support the purchase of program equipment, materials and supplies. 
  • Recipients would receive a one-time $3,000 school-age program licensing incentive grant upon licensing. 
    • Grants would be prorated for programs that operate less than full-time.
