Farm Practices Review Board

Responsible for responding to written complaints about farming practices, determining normal farm practices, designating codes of practice, and reviewing any proposed enactment, policy or undertaking that may adversely affect an agricultural operation.

Mediation roles.

Primary Role:  Adjudicative

Material Role:  Strategic Development

How many people are on the board?

The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint a Farm Practices Review Board consisting of:

  • three members who are not farmers (one of whom is designated vice-chairperson); and
  • six members recommended by farm organizations in the province (one of who is designated chairperson).

What are the requirements of board members?

Work & Experience Requirements
Knowledge and familiarity about agriculture practice and issues.

Skills Required
Mediation and tribunal skills required

What are the nomination requirements?

Statutory Nomination Requirements
The Lieutenant Governor in Council shall appoint all members.

Will I get paid?

Chair - $200/diem and Members - $142/diem.

What is the time commitment of the board?

Annual meeting, training sessions and meetings as required

The members of the board may be appointed to hold office for a term not exceeding three years and may be re-appointed.
