AccessAbility Advisory Council 

The AccessAbility Advisory Council was formed in 2017 to provide the Minister of Social Development and Seniors with ongoing input, consultation and advice on issues affecting persons with disabilities.

The Department of Social Development and Seniors is currently looking to identify potential members for the AccessAbility Advisory Council.  The members of the AccessAbility Advisory Council are appointed by the Minister to serve terms of

three years. Members may be re-appointed to serve for two consecutive terms.  Currently, there is an immediate opening for a member representing the business community as well as a member with lived experience dealing with a disability.

The primary roles and responsibilities of the AccessAbility Advisory Council are to:

  • Advise the Minister on broad disability issues;
  • Offer ongoing input into the development of public policy, program and services;
  • Provide a forum to identify and discuss major issues impacting the disability community;
  • Champion research to inform policy and practice;
  • Foster partnerships among persons with disabilities, government and community; and
  • Enhance public awareness and education.

The Council will meet a minimum of four times a year, with a minimum of one meeting with the Minister.  Additional meetings may be held at the call of the Minister, the Minister’s designate or the Chair. Meetings will be set at a date, location

and time mutually agreed upon by the Council. The AccessAbility Advisory Council is a Category “D” board under the Treasury Board Honoraria Policy.  There are no payments made for service.  Necessary travel and related costs are

reimbursed for members of the Council.

Council of the Institute of the Prince Edward Island Professional Planners

The Department of Housing, Land and Communities is soliciting applications from members of the public with knowledge of the Registered Professional Planners Act who are not members of the PEI Institute of Professional Planners.

The Council of the Institute of the Prince Edward Island Professional Planners shall manage and control the affairs and business of the Prince Edward Island Institute of Professional Planners.  

The Council is currently seeking applications for members at large.

Employment Standards Board 

The Employment Standards Board is currently recruiting for new members, including employee representatives, employer representatives, and a vice-chairperson. Members are appointed for a term not exceeding three years but are eligible

for reappointment. The Employment Standards Board is responsible for annually reviewing and recommending changes to the minimum wage. This involves a consultation process and meetings, which usually occur in September. The Board

is also responsible for hearing appeals of orders of an inspector made under the Employment Standards Act as well as some other functions assigned to the Board under the Act.

Labour Relations Board 

The Labour Relations Board is currently recruiting for new members, including employee and employer representatives with previous experience working within a unionized environment. Members are appointed for a term not exceeding three

years but are eligible for reappointment. The Labour Relations Board is responsible for matters under the Labour Act, including hearing applications for certification and unfair labour practice complaints. 

Please be advised that meetings and hearings are held during business hours.

PEI Marketing Council 

The Department of Agriculture is soliciting applications for members at large. The role of the Council is to provide general supervision for all commodity boards, marketing commissions and commodity groups established under the Natural

Regional Housing Authorities

The Prince Edward Island Housing Corporation is currently seeking applications from Islanders interested in serving on the one of its nine (9) Regional Housing Authorities.  The role of the Housing Authority in each region is to provide

guidance and oversight on the day-to-day management of its respective housing units.

Regulated Health Professions Councils 

Would you like to support a health profession by sitting on one of the regulated councils as a public representative? The role of each of the Regulated Health Professions Councils are to ensure standards of practice, regulate the practice of the

health profession, and other duties. As a public representative, your role helps provide for accountability to the public for the regulated health professions.

Councils under the Regulated Health Professions Act include:

  • Council of the Prince Edward Island College of Occupational Therapists
  • Council of the College of Allied Health Professionals of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Counselling Therapy of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Dental Hygienists of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Dietitians of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Massage Therapists of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island
  • Council of the Prince Edward Island College of Pharmacy
  • Council of the Prince Edward Island College of Physiotherapy
  • Council of the Prince Edward Island Dental College
  • Council of the College of Optometrists of Prince Edward Island

Members may not receive a per diem for this board but may be eligible for reimbursement for travel expenses to attend meetings and events.

Rural Communities Council 

Are you passionate about rural PEI? Would you like to provide advice and make recommendations to Government regarding rural PEI matters? If so, we encourage you to apply to become a member to the Rural Communities Council

Typically, the council holds four meetings a year held at a central location from 5:00-8:00 pm. (meal provided).

Social Programs Appeal Board

The Social Programs Appeal Board provides independent hearing and adjudication to social programs clients who are dissatisfied with decisions made concerning their application/benefits under Social Assistance, AccessAbility Supports,

Senior’s Independence Initiative, or Child Care Subsidy.

The Department of Social Development and Seniors is currently seeking applications from Islanders interested in serving on the Social Programs Appeal Board. Relevant experience in human services is required.  There will be immediate

openings for residents of Prince County. Persons who are bilingual in English and French and persons with lived experience as a recipient of Social Programs are also encouraged to apply.

Workers Compensation Board of PEI

The Workers Compensation Board of PEI is seeking applications from interested Islanders for the position of worker representative and employer representative.  Current working knowledge of workers compensation and health and safety

principles, as well as experience in operations, policy development, strategic thinking and human resource functions would be considered an asset. WCB values and supports diversity and encourages applicants from across the Island’s

diverse population.
