Internationally Educated Nurses Bursary Program Reimbursement
If you are an Internationally Education Nurse (IEN) who has been hired by a PEI healthcare employer and has immigrated to PEI for work as a Registered Nurse, Provisional Class Registered Nurse, or a Licensed Practical Nurse, you may be eligible to be reimbursed on the fees listed in the below table. Use the online form below to apply for reimbursement and submit documentation.
Note: You must sign and submit a 3,900 working hours Return in Service Agreement with your employer if you are approved for reimbursement through the program.
What fees are eligible for reimbursement?

*Family as defined by Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
**The Colleges' International Documents Processing Fee and International Application Fee is set by the regulator. Therefore, the maximum cost is set by each college and may be subject to change.
Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible for fee reimbursement, you must meet each of the following criteria:
- Currently working for an eligible PEI healthcare employer,
- Have registered with either the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island (CRNMPEI) or the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island (CLPNPEI),
- Have paid for all eligible IEN bursary fees on or after April 1, 2023, and
- All fees being submitted must be received within 6 months of the initial application approval date.
What do I need to complete the online form?
You will be asked to provide full identity and contact details and upload copies of the following documents:
- Proof of any fee payment - Official receipt(s) from any eligible costs incurred through the above listed immigration, CRNMPEI/CLPNPEI, NNAS, and Transitional Education Fees listed above, and
- CRNMPEI or CLPNPEI College Registration Number.
How will I receive payment?
- Once you submit the on-line form (complete with documents) a representative from the Department of Health and Wellness will review your application.
- If the initial screening of your application appears to meet program eligibility criteria, a representative of the Department of Health and Wellness will contact your employer to verify the terms of your employment.
- Your employer must sign and return an Employment Verification Form in order for your application to proceed to the next step.
- Once your employment has been verified as meeting the criteria for reimbursement, you will receive an email with a Direct Deposit Banking Form and Return-in-Service Agreement attached.
- You must sign and return the Direct Deposit Banking Form and Return-in-Service Agreement to the correct email address to receive your approved reimbursement by direct deposit.
How long will it take to process my request?
Once all required documents are submitted, your request will be processed as soon as administratively possible.
