Contaminated Site Registry

Contaminated properties that exceed regulatory limits may be designated as a contaminated site on the Contaminated Sites Registry. View all contaminated sites on PEI on the Contaminated Sites Map.

To find a contaminated property in the online Contaminated Site Registry, you can search by the community the property is in or by the property identification number (PID) for the parcel of land you are searching.  To find the PID, enter the property address in the Address Locator.

What is a Contaminated Site?

A number of properties on PEI are considered to be ‘contaminated.’ Often, this is because fuel oil has spilled from home heating tanks or from underground fuel storage tanks. The Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation Regulations provide direction for cleaning up reported spills. These regulations follow a regional partnership known as the Atlantic Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA).

By partnering in the Atlantic RBCA, Island residents can be assured that the clean up and management of contaminated sites is effective and serves the needs of PEI. Incorporating the Atlantic RBCA process into the Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation Regulations provides a consistent approach for protecting people and the environment.
