Septic Contractor's Licence

Renewal Advisory - March 31, 2023

Please be advised that Septic Contractor and Site Assessor licencing is up for renewal on March 31, 2023 pursuant to subsection 3.(3) of the Water Act Sewage Disposal Systems Regulations.

3.(3) A septic contractor’s licence expires on the date indicated on the licence, which shall not be more than two years from the date of issuance, and may be renewed on payment of the licence renewal fee of $250.

As well, all outstanding Certificate of Compliance forms for installed sewage disposal systems must be received by this Department prior to the renewal of a Septic Contractor Licence. Certificates of Compliance must be received within 60 days of the installation of a sewage disposal system as per subsection 14.(1) of the Water Act Sewage Disposal Systems Regulations.

14.(1) Within 60 days of installing a sewage disposal system with a flow of 6,810 litres per day or less, or reconstructing or modifying a sewage disposal system, a septic contractor shall provide to the person responsible in respect of the site and the Minister, a certificate of compliance in the form required by the Minister certifying that the sewage disposal system has been installed, reconstructed or modified in accordance with the sewage disposal system registration form and these regulations.

What does a Septic Contractor's Licence allow me to do?

You need to have a Septic Contractor's Licence to install or repair an on-site sewage disposal (septic) system.

What do I need to get a Septic Contractor's Licence?

You must have a valid site assessors licence. You need to make application, pay the fee, and have passed an exam from the responsible authority. You also must have attended a seminar or workshop sponsored by the responsible authority.

If you have a similar licence issued by another province or territory, you may be able to get a Septic Contractor's Licence for PEI if it is equivalent to the PEI regulatory requirements.

What are the fee?

$250 is the application fee for a Septic Contractor Licence. Licences are valid for two years.

$250 is the renewal fee for a Septic Contractor Licence. HST is not required. Make cheques payable to the Minister of Finance.
